Welcome! I am a mom to two wonderful kids, a lovely retired greyhound, and a wife to a great husband. Needless to say, there are a lot of daily messes to clean up around our house. Daily Messes is my blog to share ideas on things to do with your kids, snack and meal ideas, crafts, and holiday fun. I hope you find something to enjoy!

Sssew Awesome:Tie Snake Craft

I started cleaning out old toys and clothes this week. We have birthdays and Christmas coming up and I figured now was a good time to start making room for the new things that will be coming. I started stacking the toys that weren't played with anymore and the old clothes in a donation pile when I saw a couple of ties my husband was getting rid of.  The kids were playing with them and making them wiggle around. I had some batting and decided to stuff the ties to make snakes!

You will need:
  • Tie(s)
  • Batting
  • Buttons or Googly Eyes
  • Hot glue and glue gun, or thread and needle
  • Red felt

Directions:
1. Tear off pieces of batting and stuff into the tie. (This is a great way for younger
kids to 'help' with the craft!)  Use a pencil/dowel rod/ruler to push the
    batting into the tie.

2. Once the tie is stuffed, close both ends. You can use hot glue or sew it closed. I
also added some stitches along the ties seem to make sure it wouldn't burst open
when being swung around by a active little hands.
3. Cut out a strip from the red felt. I made a forked tongue for ours.
4. Attach the tongue to the large end of the tie. (Hot glue to the bottom of the tie or
    sew on.)
5. Attach googly eyes or buttons for eyes using hot glue or thread.

6. Play and enjoy!

  1. If you are unfamiliar with the Liebster Blog Award, it is a wonderful way for bloggers to acknowledge each other's hard word. It helps to encourage a positive attitude toward one another as well as complement each other. I recently received this award for my site Life On Peanut Layne. I have been following your blog and loved it so I am handing the torch to you. To continue the pay it forward model you read my post here and link back to it once you have written your own.

    1. Thank you so much! I already received it, but I'll answer the questions :)
      1. Do you have any phobias? Crickets. As long as they are not near me, I am fine.

      2. What's your favorite season? Halloween. I love decorating, pumpkin carving, and the costumes.

      3. What is the inspiration behind your blog title? My house is a daily mess, so it became the blog title. I post everyday, but it is sometimes hard to come with something for each day!

      4. Where is your favorite place to shop? Barnes and Nobles or Target. I spend way too much money at either place.

      5. What's your favorite food? Hmm...chocolate!

      6. Do you have a favorite room or spot in your house? I don't really have a favorite room, but I do have a chair I like to curl up on after the kids are in bed.

      7. Do you have a favorite quote? I'm sure I do, but I can't think of it right now.

      8. What made you decide to start blogging? I always wanted to be a writer. I have several books started, but cannot quite make it to the end of any of them. Blogging helps me write, but gives me some freedom on how much I need to do each day. I am always trying to find new things to do/make with the kids and thought I would put it out there in case it could help anyone else.

      9. Do you have a Facebook page for your blog? Yes :) www.facebook.com/DailyMesses

      10. Do you have any bad habits? Chocolate. I also avoid folding socks at all costs.

      11. What is your dream job or career? It's a toss up between blogging and cake decorating. If I could make money through this blog, I would be in heaven. I love making cakes, but I think my wrist would give out. I also love the bookstore, but I don't think any of the paychecks would make it home.
