Welcome! I am a mom to two wonderful kids, a lovely retired greyhound, and a wife to a great husband. Needless to say, there are a lot of daily messes to clean up around our house. Daily Messes is my blog to share ideas on things to do with your kids, snack and meal ideas, crafts, and holiday fun. I hope you find something to enjoy!

Scavenger Hunt

When the weather is nice, I like to take walks. It gets us out of the house and allows me to burn off a tiny part of the cookie/candy/regular soda I ate earlier. The kids can get bored if we take long walks or use the same routes. One way to keep my kids occupied is to play "I Spy" or to have a Scavenger Hunt. It keeps their minds busy and makes them more aware of their surroundings. The Scavenger Hunts are great for car rides, on walks, or even inside for rainy days. You can make your own list, find some online, or use mine! My youngest can't read yet, so his list has pictures.

You can make ones specifically for different events too:
*car rides (ie, highway signs, stop signs, traffic lights, cows, birds, red cars, blue cars, clod)
*rain days (glasses, tape measure, computer, pencil, pen, screwdriver, nut, bolt, paperclip, paper, cup, camera,
  flashlight)
*walks (dog, cat, bird, leaves, tree, flowers, tomato, pepper, mushrooms, butterfly, sunglasses, hats,
  basketball, kite)
*Easter (rabbit/bunny, chicks, eggs, baskets, candy)
*Fall/Thanksgiving (hay, scarecrow, corn, pumpkins, apples, colorful leaves, broom)
*Halloween (lights, pumpkins, witch, broom, scarecrow, ghost, Frankenstein, vampire/Dracula, candy)
*Christmas (lights, Christmas tree, Snowman, Santa, sleigh, reindeer, elf, presents)

I made a few different ones that I'll be posting throughout the year (some are for Halloween, Christmas, etc.) The first one is Going On A Walk! I hope you enjoy!

  1. I love the idea of a scavenger hunt on a walk. I have a 4, 3, and 22 month old so our walks are often short (so the "baby" can walk) and the same route. A scavenger hunt would keep the 4 year old more interested!
