Welcome! I am a mom to two wonderful kids, a lovely retired greyhound, and a wife to a great husband. Needless to say, there are a lot of daily messes to clean up around our house. Daily Messes is my blog to share ideas on things to do with your kids, snack and meal ideas, crafts, and holiday fun. I hope you find something to enjoy!

Race Car Bear Sloppy Joes

I used to love having sloppy joe sandwiches when I was a kid. My oldest hates getting his hands messy, so I thought this would be a fun way to share my childhood memories without him getting messy!

Ingredients:

  • Hot dog buns
  • Cucumber or cheese slices
  • Thinly sliced carrots (or pretzel sticks)
  • Pretzel twists
  • Ground beef or turkey
  • Sloppy joe mix
  • Grapes
  • Toothpick

Directions:

1.  On the top of the hot dog bun, hollow out the middle. Make a hole on sides of the bun with the toothpick for the wheels.

2.  Cut the cucumber into thin slices, or cheese into circles, and make a hole in the center of each slice with the toothpick. Attach the cucumber or cheese wheels to the car with the pretzel sticks or carrot sticks.

3.  Cut grapes in half and poke a hole through the center with the toothpick. Use either the pretzel sticks or carrot sticks to attach grapes to front of the bun to make headlights.

4.  Cook up the ground beef or turkey and sloppy joe mix. Fill the hollowed out buns with the sloppy joe mixture.

5.  Place the pretzel in the front of the sloppy joe mix and press in to make a steering wheel.

Alternative ideas: use cheese or jello jigglers cut into circles for the wheels. Break an arch off of a twist pretzel and place in the sloppy joe mix for a steering wheel and add in a small graham cracker bear for a driver. Add the bear right before serving, or it will become mushy.
